A salute to ‘Gamma’

Former Benedictine cricketer and well known sports writer Gamini Senadhira passed away on Friday.
Though he was my boss ‘Gamma’ as he was fondly called, was not one who believed in titles. He was always available to guide any aspiring sports journalist who was green behind the ears.

He was a mentor, boss and friend. The news of his death was nothing short of a shock as his personality was such that he seemed almost immortal. Though well versed in all sports, Gamma’s all consuming passion was cricket.

Long were the hours we spent on the merits and demerits of cricket. Out of office Gamma was the life of any party with his wit and humour and he was the first to arrive if any friend had a crisis. His departure leaves a large void and the only consolation is that he lying comfortably in the loving arms of Lord Jesus Christ. - Harry
