Skipper Hans Fernando with an unbeaten knock of 103 has put his side in line to the final of the Under 23 Division One cricket tournament. SSC set a target of 213 for victory by the Schools U20 XI ended the second day on 178 for 1 needing just 35 runs in their semi final encounter at the NCC ground.

Hans was supported by another unbeaten 66 from Navin Perera as the pair shared a 172 runs unbroken stand. Hans cracked 11 boundaries and a six while Navin hit four fours. The fight back put in by the Schools U20 XI on day one seemed wasted as the batsmen failed to deliver the goods except for Dimuth Karunaratne who made 82 with 12 boundaries and skipper Ashan Priyanjana who chipped in with a 50 inclusive of four boundaries and a six.

The duo was associated in a sixth wicket partnership of 68 runs which helped the Schools U20 XI to make 243 from their overnight score of 85 for 2.

But the target set for SSC was made to look easy by Hans and Navin.
Schools U20 XI 115 in 24 overs (Nizam Mazahir 54, Marlon Fernando 30: Milan Fernando 3 for 11, Shalika Karunanayake 3 for 21, Hasitha de Silva 2 for 26, Chathupama Gunasinghe 2 for 44) and (85/2 o’night) 243 in 62.5 overs (Dimuth Karunaratne 82, Ashan Priyanjana 50, Nisham Mazahir 33, Marlon Fernando 26, Sanjaya Fernando 23: Dhanushka Colombage 3 for 49, Shalika Karunanayake 3 for 74, Milan Fernando 2 for 53)

SSC 146 in 45.5 overs (Ryan Kern 46, Janudhika Sriyapala 33, Hans Fernando 26: Udara Peiris 3 for 12, Sanjaya Fernando 3 for 25, Sachith Pathirana 3 for 60) and 178 for 1 in 43 overs (Hans Fernando 103 n.o., Navin Perera 66 n.o.)

NCC took the upper hand on day two of their U23 Division One semi final match against Colts played at the SSC ground. Resuming on their overnight score of 362 for 9 they went on to make 376 and then bundled out Colts for 234.
