Mithun ends Captain reign

A few years ago Mithun Perera was identified as the prodigy playing remarkable brilliant golf under the tutelage of the maestro his father Nandasena Perera. He is today playing off plus 2 and recognized as the very best in our golfing world. He is the new champion of the Royal Colombo Golf Club.

At the recently concluded Club Championship he was in devastating form. He eased over Sanjay Vairavanathan, thrashed Sheron Fernando 7 & 6 and took Rusi Captain to the cleaners and left him with a dashing 7 & 6 victory. Rusi Captain did not have it so good coming into the finals. He beat Mihindu Chandrasoma 5 & 4 and had a close call beating the elegant seasoned campaigner Stewart Ritchie 2 & 1. On present form Mithun Perera has become unmatchable and general opinion is that he will remain in the No. 1 slot for many more years

Sakaya Ukwatte wins silver
Young Ukwatte had little trouble beating R. Bakelmun whom he defeated comfortably to win the Silver and rounds of applause. Young Ukwatte is playing great golf these days and much credit to him for winning the Silver.

Bronze
Trevine let the side down. He cracked up when least expected and gave away the game to Damindra Fernando who pounced on the errors made. Meantime on the other half Mindika Hettiarachchi crept into the finals to provide the game of his life. He gave Damindra Fernando many anxious moments and comfortably stretched him to the 19th and with one reckless shot gave the Bronze away.

Masters
Much was expected from young Nihal "Inguru" Ranasinghe but unfortunately he could not put things together and chain the good strokes.

It was a positive case of lack of confidence that made him choke at the 19th and lose that hole and the semi-final. Nimal "Pinnacle" Perera went the same way. Absolute reckless play made him lose his nerve and give away the Bronze Trophy.

The Prize Giving was a glittering gathering of a superb bunch of fun lovers. Much was consumed and great happiness derived. It was a fitting end to great annual event.
