It is a renewal; it is about reinvention. And above all, Re-Genesis, Colombo's next hot and upcoming musical experience, according to those performing, "Signifies a renewal of everything that lies at the core; and a reinvention of all that surrounds and encapsulates it."

To put it short and sweet, Re-Genesis promises to be a refreshing and mind blowing musical treat by three very unique and talented bands – HollowPoint Halo, Powercut Circus and Thriloka – coming together to a stage near you.

Presented by Rockapalooza Productions, Re-Genesis happens at Club Nuovo, Taj Samudra at 8pm on August 8. "We felt that Thriloka and Powercut Circus, along with us, compliment each other quite well; and yet each retains its own distinguishable artistic style," explained the members of HollowPoint Halo. "We all share a similar passion for the music that we create as well as cover and yet we each bring our own unique tonality and temperament into a performance. And not only do Powercut Circus and Thriloka comprise some of the most talented musicians in this country, but they're also a great group of guys who get on just as well off stage as on."

Whenever HollowPoint Halo performs, bringing something genuinely engaging to an audience – be it in song choice, style of performance or the use of arresting visuals. This time around, in order to raise the bar even higher, they are joined by Powercut Circus and Thriloka. "We thought that inviting a couple of powerhouse bands to play alongside us would perhaps raise the bar that much higher and give our audience a richer experience."

HollowPoint Halo has come a long way since its inception. Re-Genesis is something of a resurfacing of the band, having been "underground" for a while. Don't let that fool you though; the band has been quite busy behind the scenes, playing the odd gig and supporting various causes when time permits.

Powercut Circus

After a couple of years of recording at different Studios, the band decided to launch a Studio of their own – Halien Production House (HPH) They have been working tirelessly of version two of their website. Version 2, also named "Re-Genesis" will be launched in late September.

Ranil Goonawardene is the lead guitarist, producer and co-composer of the band, together Marsh Dodanwela, who also does lead vocals. Marsh and Chathuranga Neminda are responsible for the graphics and visual artistry that is featured on the website, while the website itself is the creative progeny of Chathuranga and Andre Perera.

Powercut Circus was formed at the end of 2006, with four members. They have Sean Fernando and Asvajit Boyle on vocals, Shehan Karunatilake on Bass, and Dhinesh Manuel on drums. A little bit of psychedelic rock with a danceable groove is their signature style. "We find that most of our audience finds it easy to relate to our music and lyrics. Being that they comment on life in Sri Lanka and have local themes," explained Dhinesh.

"It is very encouraging to see the local music scene now," he says. "A while ago, when we first decided to form a brand, things were not very easy and one of our main challenges was to find band members. This was at a time when there were a very few bands in the limelight. But when you compare that to the present day local music scene, there is a huge difference. There are many talented artistes and bands out there, all tackling very different genres. We are really excited to work with the other bands because it's a really great experience!"

Thriloka

Thriloka is an overflowing of the diverse sublime emotions and Yearnings of youth now coming together, Thriloka (lit. 'three worlds') remains committed to multicultural music-making within a uniquely Sri Lankan context. With all its band members (oriental percussionist Pabalu Wijegoonawardane, jazz/classical pianist Eshantha Peiris, ragadari/rock guitarist Sarani Perera, jazz/progressive drummer Harshan Gallage, and electric bassist Uvindu Perera) actively contributing to the catalogue of original compositions and arrangements, this merging of musical genres is in many ways representative of the band's vision for globalization and cultural assimilation in the contemporary society. "Thriloka is an island on which you might build anything reflecting the natural world, evoking the best of world music – music produced of a blend of themes to maximize listening pleasure," commented Sarani Perera.
