Romaanz your meal!

By Natasha Fernandopulle

Sometimes it is not about the food, but rather about a place that makes you want to just hang out and relax. And if it is a casual place where you can spend some time with your family, or a place to play a game or two of pool and maybe have a snack while you are there, Romaanz might just be it.

Situated down Duplication Road, with the landmark of a massive shady tree near the entrance, this restaurant opened its doors on April 4, this year. And since they opened, "the customer response has been good," said Dr. Yousuf Maraikkar, the owner of the restaurant adding that they get a good response from the pool parlour as well.

They offer a variety of dishes ranging from Western, Indian and Chinese, to Sri Lankan food, out of which, the Romaanz special fried rice and noodles as well as the submarines are said to be the most popular dishes among their customers. Romaanz also offers a range of mouth-watering delicacies such as King Fish (Grilled), Medallion Steak, Beef Chops, Spaghetti Marinara and Chicken Piccata with Spaghetti. Romali, Naan, Chappatti and Parotas are some of the options available, from the grill.

In addition, they have various offers and themes on certain days of the week, like their BBQ Night on Fridays and Saturdays between 6pm-10pm. They also have a delivery service and even do take-away.
One of the main attractions at the restaurant is the large pool parlour next door, which is also part of the set up and very popular among the youngsters, where they have a number of members as well.

How the name Romaanz came about according to Dr. Maraikkar was because of his grandson, whose name is Rumaan! Priyantha the head chef of the restaurant, who has worked at some of Colombo's leading hotels, says that they get very busy during the evenings and that during the day time they cater mainly to youngsters.

Romaanz has a variety of juices, milk shakes and desserts. These aside there are a couple of soups and salads to choose from as well. The menu also has a few items especially for kids, like Fish Fingers, Sausages and Chicken nuggets with French Fries. Their Chicken Biriyani is noteworthy and so are their club sandwiches. And for all you vegetarians, there's many options too, with dishes such as Vegetable Kurma, Paneer Masala, Potato Capsicum Jalfrezi and Dhal Fry being available.

So if it is an affordable afternoon, or a causal evening out with your friends that you are looking for, make sure you pop in to Romaanz some time!
