Mark with ‘Souls’

A veteran in the music field, Mark completes his fortieth uninterrupted year in music in 2008. Started as a young Country singer in a band call 'Souls' in 1968, Mark still continues his love for Country and Western with his old Gibson box guitar.

Sings at most of his stints unplugged, Mark is a much demanded man in Nuwara Eliya for the past fifteen years.

He performed at the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya on regular basis for ten years till the year 2000 and then was a sure attraction at the April Spring Festival till he decided to take South coast and Negombo for his stint.

He started with Tangerine Hotel Kalutara and was given an option to go for a stint at the Grand, which is in the same Group of Hotels.

'I went for a short time to the 'Grand' but glued to it for a much longer period. I was working with the Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya for ten whole years and was very popular with tourists visiting there.

Because, there are hardly any Country and Western singer in the local music scene and Nuwara Eliya was not a place for them. Even after my stint at the Grand Hotel, I used to perform on and off at few spots for April season as well as other popular hotels in Nuwara Eliya' he said.

Mark is a very dynamic singer on stage and after his band 'Souls' disbanded, he was performing with the bands 'Reflections and 'Oceanites', playing guitar and singing good old Rock n' Roll.

In 1989 I went to Oman with a band and was performing there in Country Club circuits and later joined with Indian boy to do a Country duo for nearly two years. My mother passed away and I had to return home and thereafter I went solo as a Country Singer' he enthused.

Mark as a musician has travelled to Japan and Hong Kong to perform in Country Concerts. He now sings at the Capri for one day per week and weekends at Blue Oceanic Hotel in Negombo.

'I get lot of private parties and company functions. I might start at Lighthouse Hotel Galle from October, when the winter season starts' he concludes.
