That all-important switch

With reference to the letter on plugs in The Sunday Times of May 3, Mr. Cooray is correct in assuming that the plug earth loop is the least resistant path. So it is wise to break this loop.

The Ceylon Electrical Board and other local authorities should study this point and bring in a regulation to install a new switch making/breaking the earthing loop. This switch can be a simple knife-type single throw single pole.

I hope other electrical engineers will come up with solutions.
