Now Harry eyes Asiri

By Duruthu Edirimuni

Businessman Harry Jayawardena, this week took a 20 percent stake in Asiri Surgical Hospital through Sri Lanka Insurance.

The move comes in the wake of his widely-publicized battle for Apollo Hospital, which Jayawardene finally won.

Asiri Hospital Managing Director Ashok Pathirage is however confident that they can ride the storm and beat off Mr. Jayawardene’s efforts to acquire yet another hospital.

Mr. Pathirage’s company, Softlogic has a six percent stake but controls Asiri Surgical by virtue of a 23 percent stake in Asiri Hospital which in turn has 29 percent in Asiri Surgical.

“Softlogic, together with the other ‘supporting’ directors will not sell their shares,” Mr. Pathirage said.
