Building bridges
On Wednesday morning the young Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena brought back memories of Ehelepola Disawe’s son Madduma Bandara who held out his own neck and life for the sake of his family and thus became immortal. Here too the youthful Lankan captain held out his neck to a media gallery on whatever the explanations that he could come forth with after the thoughtless crash out at the Champions Trophy. But, how convincing he was with his explanations is worth analysing.

In spite of St. Joseph’s College, Maradana taking the men’s title, newcomers to swimming Trinity College (men) and Mahamaya Kandy (girls) stole the limelight at the National Aquatic 2006 Championships, concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium Aquatic Complex, yesterday.
 
Jani summoned before disciplinary committee

Lankan sprinter Jani Chathurangi who has been found guilty of using the performance enhancing drug Norandrosterone has been summoned to appear before the SAG disciplinary committee tomorrow.

We have been witnessing “Champions Trophy” action for five weeks now and have reached the final game. The expectancy was of high scoring games and the dominance of spin. It all began true to form. In the opening qualifying game Sri Lanka rattled a three hundred plus score and Bangladesh did not let themselves down, getting reasonably close to the target.
