Two sailors, STF member killed

Two sailors and an STF personnel were killed in two separate claymore mine explosions in the Eastern province yesterday, military sources said.

The sailors were on a route clearing patrol along the Nilaweli-Trincomalee road when the explosion took place, Navy Spokesman D.K.P. Dassanayake said.

One sailor died on the spot and the other in hospital.

The STF personnel was killed when LTTE cadres detonated a claymore mine and fired small arms targeting an STF jeep near the 12th mile post on the Ampara Pottuvil road around 7.30 pm yesterday, the Media Centre for National Security said.
