'Karl Katz' at MLH
'Karl Katz' band will be in action at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from December 22 to 31.

'Karl Katz' will perform at the gala Dinner dance at the Terrace on December 31 along with 'Antoinette and Rodney with Cross Section'.The tikets are priced at Rs. 3900/= per head.

In his homeland Karl Katz, a multi-instrumentalist plays saxophone and piano, leads his own Karl Katz and Combo playing at many venues for lunchtime and dinner engagements. The Combo also makes broadcasts over radio and for this purpose he leads an orchestra including more strings and wind instruments.

A familiar figure in Sri Lanka Karl Katz artistry belongs to the fascinating era of Stephani Grappelly and with his amplified violin he has released many CDs in Germany.

Lindy is also known as Lady Bass. She plays the double bass and is one of Europe's best known double bassists. She was part of the Frankfurt Barrel House Jazz Band from 1979-89. In 1987 she formed her own band, a German American combination. In 1994 she was part of the group known as Swinging Ladies.

This group also included the 4 top lady soloists from USA.

Peter Schucker is the drummer. Also known as 'peshu'. Started his career drumming in the 60's. Later in the 80's and 90's he was playing with famous jazz bands in Germany such as Stuttgart Dixieland All Stars. He was invited for the jazz jubilee in Sacramento in USA 2002. In 1996 he was given honorary citizenship in New Orleans.

Charles Hollering plays the clarinet. He started his career at age 8 on the accordian. Then later played the clarinet. In 1958, he started playing jazz. He has toured over 40 countries. He represented Germany with the clarinet at the Benny Goodman festival in Italy.

Roland Scheneider is a jazz legend. A technical and emotional pianist who has played with big names such as Brook Benton, Miles Brothers, the Golden Gate quartet and Albert Nicholas.

KET come alive at Eden for New Year bash
Kumara Ekanayake (KET) will perform at the Hotel Eden for this year's New Year Dance.

This is the fourth consecutive year at Confifi Group and KET is in the music scene for the last fifteen years.

KET Comprises, Kumara Ekanayake, his wife and a guitarist.

For our performances we use superior quality sound equipment and our repertoire of songs and music styles are extensive and divers.

We have carved our niche in the entertainment field throughout Sri Lanka, also with our originals we got a good response from the public and the song of " LATHA LATHA" is a popular among the fans. With that I had many chances for the ontstation shows, but we missed good shows because of our special performances at the hotel Kumara said.

KET will be in action at the Eden on December 24 and 31. 'We've been at Eden on regular basis for the past four years,' he said. KET performans at Riverina on Tuesdays and Eden every Friday.

Although we play as a trio we can cover the out door Shows too and we are not tied down to any type of music.

With our wide repertoire, which includes contemporary chart hits to the evergreen of yesteryear, we have been kept busy and hope 2003 will also be successful for us? Kumara said.

'Friends' come alive at Taj

One of Sri Lanka's most popular bands 'Friends', who have been performing in Switzerland are now in SriLanka after three years. They are now performing at Taj Samudra's Mix Bar. Catch them in action at the Mix Bar on every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The line up consists of Nihar Hameed, Udaya Welikala, Ushan Gunasekara, Marlon Amarasekara and the new female vocalist Gabriela Janska. Gabriela the newest addition to the band, who hail from the Czech Republic. 'Friends' who rocked Colombo three years ago are exclusively contracted with Taj Samudra this season and will be performing throughout December at various venues at the Taj.

On New Year's Eve, they will be in action at the North Lawn of the Taj, where a mega dinner dance will be held with a Grand International Buffet, dancing, prizes and much more giveaways.
