Have you ever longed for that 'total look', that perfectly made up elegance that turns heads? Well, this festive season, well known beautician Ramani Fernando demonstrates to Mirror Magazine readers how make-up can be applied in an easy step-by-step routine.

From the correct way to applying eye shadow to lipstick, here are Ramani's guidelines to good-make-up. So step out with confidence this season.

1. First the facial skin has to
be cleansed, toned and
moisturised to prepare it for
make up.

2. Next all blemishes and scars
on the skin should be covered
with concealer. The colour of the
concealer should be the same tone
as your skin or a shade lighter

3. Then apply foundation. Choose
the colour of your skin and smooth
on the foundation with a clean, wet
sponge.

4. You can use either loose or
pressed power over the
foundation. Apply with a puff
or brush and keep to the same
colour as your skin tone.

5. When appying blusher, suck
your cheeks in, to get the correct
contour of the cheek bones. Apply
the blusher on the hollow area,
blending it towards the hairline.
Choose colours like brick, brown
or bronze.

6. Now the eyes. Apply a light
coloured eye shadow on the lid
first. Always use matt finish power
shadow. Never use a cream eye
shadow.

7. To shape up the nose, use
a darker shade on either side.

8. To make the eye look longer
and enhance it's appearance,
apply a darker shade of eye
shadow on the outer corners of
the lid.

9. Use a large soft brush to blend
in the eye shadow well.

10. Apply a lighter shade of
eye shadow eg. white, gold
or silver and apply under the
brow to highlight the eyes.

11. Darken the eyebrows using
a dark brown pencil with feathery
strokes.

12. Comb with an eyebrow
brush for neat shapely brows.

13. For a complete look, eye
liner is a must. Apply very
carefully from outer corner to
inner corner of the eye.

14. With an eye pencil, outline
the lower lid to give eyes a more
attractive shape.

15. A white pencil is used inside
the eye lid to give eyes a larger
look.

16. Roll on the mascara to finish
the eye make up.

17. Line the lips with a lip pencil.
When using a lip pencil you can
reshape your lips.
