Teacher advisors should also be involved in the formal process prepared for monitoring education reforms introduced for Grade 1, Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya said.

She was speaking at the fifth session of the Steering Committee on the New Education Reforms held at the Parliament premises on May 6.

Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa presented a detailed report on the educational reform development programmes carried out so far.

The report included information on the newly appointed committees covering the five main pillars of the education reforms, as well as statistical data related to module preparation, development of teacher guides, implementation of teacher training programmes, and the improvement of school infrastructure and digital facilities.

Premier Amarasuriya said that in line with the recommendations of the Digital Task Force, technological equipment in schools will be improved. She added that the level of growth in students’ knowledge and skills through the new educational reform teaching process should be assessed using a specific measurement methodology.

The process of reviewing modules could be made more effective by obtaining support from parties with specialised knowledge relevant to each subject area, she said.

Awareness programmes are to be launched to educate society about the changes in teaching methods brought about by the new education reforms and the benefits students will gain through them, she added. (NW)
