‘Sergeant Punchisoma’ fights a politician with a spirit
View(s):Seasoned filmmaker Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s latest venture, a comedy revolving around a police officer, who come across in many hilarious incidents, ‘Sergeant Punchisoma’ is now being screened in MPI circuit cinemas around the country. The film follows Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s highly successful earlier comedy ‘Constable Punyasoma’, continuing his signature style of humour-driven storytelling that has been well received by audiences.
The film revolves around Sergeant Punchisoma, a law-abiding police officer, and his close partner Constable Rathnapala, who are on duty at a night checkpoint when they stop a suspicious vehicle. Inside, they discover a sealed container holding a mysterious spirit.
Unaware of its true nature, Punchisoma opens the container, releasing the spirit, which quickly hides inside his clothing. The spirit, originally trapped by black magicians, ends up accompanying him home without his knowledge. Chaos follows as it causes trouble in the house, even as Punchisoma and his wife struggle to control it, though it strangely becomes friendly with the children.
Eventually, Punchisoma regains control and directs the spirit towards the house of a politician who had previously caused him trouble. However, the situation takes another turn when the spirit enters the politician’s body, leading to a dramatic and humorous climax as the possessed politician heads to Parliament.
The film features Priyantha Seneviratne, Rodney Warnakula, Duleeka Marapana, Sriyantha Mendis, Nandana Hettiarachchi, Thara Kaluarachchi, Mihira Sirithilaka, Ananda Athukorala and Piyathilaka Dunuwila
‘Sergeant Punchisoma’ brings together a talented technical crew behind the scenes, with cinematography by Ayeshman Hettiarachchi, editing by Ruwan Chamara Ranasinghe, and assistant direction by Donand Jayantha and Sahan Ranuka Warnasuriya. The make-up is handled by Wasantha Vittachchi, while Manoj Priyantha takes charge of art direction. Music and playback score are by Sangith Wickremesinghe, with colour grading by Isuru Madhushan and production management by Ashoka Ariyaratne.
The film’s songs feature lyrics written by Mamadale Gemunu and Athula Kaldemulla, with melodies composed by Mahesh Denipitiya.
The film is produced, written and directed by Udayakantha Warnasuriya, marking another full creative venture
from the experienced filmmaker.
