Mother’s battle to save her daughter
View(s):The latest and the seventh in the ‘Scream’ series, adding to the slasher film series (a slasher film is a subgenre of horror films), ‘Scream 7’ is now being screened in theatres in and around Colombo.
Directed by Kevin Williamson from a screenplay co-wrote with Guy Busick, the film follows 2023 sequel Scream VI. The film follows a new Ghostface killer who targets Sidney Prescott’s daughter.
When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney has built a new life, her darkest fears are realised as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, she must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.
Shooting started in January 2025 and concluded that March, the film released in the United States and the worldwide on February 27 by Paramount Pictures.
During the production, the film went through a several hiccups starting from directors of Scream (2022) and Scream VI, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett leaving the project in August 2023 and Christopher Landon was hired to do the job. But, the film had to go through a creative retooling after the departure of stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from Scream VI, with Williamson hired to direct Scream 7 after serving as writer and producer of the early films in the series.
‘Scream 7’ is now being screened at Kandy City Centre, Liberty by Scope Kollupitiya, SCOPE Cinema – Colombo City Centre, SCOPE Cinema – Havelock City Mall, PVR Cinema, Ram Cinema and Regal Cinemas island wide. (SRF)
