Rain ‘might’ play spoilsport in Indo-Pak clash
There is a significant risk of rain disrupting Sunday’s marquee India vs Pakistan encounter at the R. Premadasa Stadium in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with weather models forecasting thundershowers close to the scheduled start time.
The Sri Lanka Department of Meteorology has warned that a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal could bring unsettled conditions to Colombo. While the city has remained largely dry in recent days, forecasts for Sunday indicate warm and humid weather in the morning, with temperatures around 30-31°C, followed by scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon. Rain probability is estimated at 50-70%.
With the match due to begin at 7:00pm local time, some projections suggest heavy showers in the hours beforehand, potentially delaying the toss or reducing the match. There is, however, a possibility of partial clearing after 8:00pm, though isolated showers may persist.
The R. Premadasa’s advanced drainage system and full-ground covers could help limit delays, with play often resuming within an hour of rain stopping.
