Medical and eye camp for retired staff at Ladies’ College
View(s):The Association of Former Staff of Ladies’ College, Colombo 7, organised a successful Medical and Eye Camp on January 24 at the Ladies’ College Hostel, reaffirming its continued commitment to the welfare of its retired members.
A comprehensive range of medical investigations, including haematological tests and ECGs, was carried out by Sitrek, while Techno Vision Optics conducted eye examinations. Twenty-five pairs of reading glasses were distributed free of charge.
The camp was declared open by the Principal of Ladies’ College, Nicole David Wijesinghe. The President of the Association, Fathima Aziz, expressed appreciation to all those whose support made it possible.
A pivotal role was played by Dr Nilanthi Fernando Nanayakkara, Consultant Neurologist and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, who secured the voluntary services of five doctors, all proud alumnae of Ladies’ College, who carried out the consultations: Dr Chathurini Dayaratne, Dr Nyomi Vivekananthan, Dr Sashini Ranaweera, Dr Nimani De Lanerolle, Dr Sulakshana Poopalasingham and Ms Shahini Liyanagama.
Another LC alumna Minoli Wijesinghe, Joint Managing Director of the Sitrek Group, coordinated the nursing staff, laboratory technicians and support services provided to the medical team while Chandana Wijesuriya of Techno Vision Optics rendered professional services.
The success of the programme was also due to the hard work of the Association’s committee members, including Lilamani Wanigasekera, Shayami Dodanwela, Shermila Rajaratnam, Anoma Amarasuriya, Laila Ismail, Rosanne Wimalasuriya, Suvendrini Gnanaskandan, Malkanthi de Silva, Priyadarshani Algama, Kumudini Colonne, Samudra Perera, Dilky Amunugama, Sohani Perera and Harshini Nanayakkara.
