Series of talks by CHDM for Independence
View(s):The Collective for Historical Dialogue and Memory will host four events in the first two weeks of February relating to Sri Lanka’s history and memory.
On Tuesday, February 3 at 5 p.m., Ravibandhu Vidyapathy will speak on the dance and design of Somabandhu Vidyapathy and his contribution to 20th century art. On Thursday, the 5th, the 1981 Sinhala film ‘Soldadu Unnehe’ by Dharmasena Pathiraja will be screened at 5.30 p.m. connecting ideologies of Independence Day, with Harindra Dassanayaka leading the discussion. On Saturday, 7th at 4 p.m. Anomaa Rajakaruna’s film ‘No More Land’ will be screened at the National Film Corporation in collaboration with People’s Alliance for Right to Land (PARL).
The last event is on Tuesday, February 10 at 5.30 p.m. Sudath Abeysiriwardene will present a talk in Sinhala on the significance of boarding houses as centres for artistic and cultural creativity in the 1960s. All the talks are free of charge and open to the public.
