Fr. Dom Bernard celebrates 50 years in priesthood
View(s):On November 29, Rev. Fr. Dom Bernard Ramenaden, OSB, will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of his priesthood. The Golden Jubilee Holy Mass will be held on Saturday, November 29 at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Rajagiriya.
Fr. Dom Bernard was ordained a priest on November 29, 1975 by Bishop Paul Perera at St. Lucia’s Cathedral, Kotahena. He is the youngest son of the late Nicholas and Irene Ramenaden of Dehiwela. On completing his education at St. Peter’s College, Colombo 4, he entered the Novitiate of the Sylvesto Benedictine Order at Adisham Haputale and took his first vows on July 14, 1967. He obtained his Bachelor of Theology from the National Seminary Ampitiya, Kandy.
His first assignment in 1976 was as Financial Administrator of St. Benedict’s Monastery, Adisham. In 1987, he left for Italy to pursue studies to gain the Licentiate in Monastic Spirituality from the Pontifical University of St. Anselmo, Rome. In 1990, he was appointed as the Master of Brothers at St. Sylvester’s Monastery, Monte Fano, Ampitiya, Kandy, and in 1994, as the Superior of Adisham, Haputale
In 2000, Fr. Dom Bernard was appointed as a member of the Community of the Holy Face Monastery, Clifton New Jersey, USA. In 2002 he was appointed as Abbot General’s Councillor and Financial Administrator of the Sylvestro Benedictine Congregation at the Monastero di Santo Stefano Protomartire, Rome. Thereafter he was appointed as the parish priest of St. Gasper’s Church, Rome City, Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA, serving there for 13 years.
After completing 19 years in foreign lands, he returned to Sri Lanka in 2019 and is now a Resident Priest at Sacred Heart Church, Rajagiriya.
