Battaramulla, a steadily evolving urban hub of Colombo, is quickly earning a reputation as one of the city’s emerging food capitals. Among its lively clusters of restaurants, eateries, cafes and pubs, one name is making an impression, not just for taste, but for its unique concept: ‘Kilo Bite’.

Located at ‘Palam Thune Junction’ in Pelawatta, ‘Kilo Bite’ is the latest entrant in the bustling Battaramulla food scene. Having launched just four months ago, in April this year, this no-frills takeaway and delivery spot has already caught the attention of food lovers in the area.

What makes Kilo Bite stand out? The answer lies in the weight of its promise, literally.

‘We serve food by the kilo’ said Susantha Abeyratne, the founder of ‘Kilo Bite’. ‘Our meals are portioned by weight, either by the kilogram or gram, so our customers know exactly what they’re getting. We focus on quantity and quality too, with generous, satisfying portions that are ideal for sharing’.

The concept, though not entirely new, is rare in the local dining landscape, and it has endorsed strongly with customers seeking hearty meals at value-for-money pricing.

‘We started with One-kilo portions for dishes like chicken, mutton, and pork in various preparations, as well as fried rice, biriyani, kottu, nasi goreng, and noodles, each serving 3 to 4 people. But due to customer demand, we recently introduced 500g portions, which are perfect for two’ Susantha adds.

While the restaurant doesn’t currently offer dine-in facilities, its efficient takeaway and delivery service have made it a go-to spot for family meals, office lunches and group gatherings. The outlet’s catchy Sinhala tagline, ‘ryg…ierg…nrg, reflects its promise of flavour-packed, weighty meals.

Kilo Bite’s menu focuses on meat-forward dishes with chicken, mutton, and seafood taking centre stage. But it’s their signature pork preparations that are winning rave reviews. For mixed tastes, the restaurant also offers a Mix Grill and there’s something for everyone—including vegetarian options.

For larger groups, ‘Kilo Bite’ also offers Sawan-style biriyani and fried rice platters, ideal for 8 to 10 people, a popular pick for celebrations, family gatherings and office functions.

Whether you’re craving a spicy kottu for two or a biriyani feast for the whole family, Kilo Bite invites you to measure your hunger… by the kilo.

Susantha is supported by a dedicated team of twelve staff members, including Manager Asanka Senaratne and Nuwan Sinhalage, in running his venture, ‘Kilo Bite’.

Though Susantha is a culinary expert, his passions extend beyond the kitchen—to music and the performing arts. He is the Vice President of the Sinhala Cultural Institute (‘Sudarshi’) and has produced several notable stage plays and teledramas, including ‘Romba Thanks’, ‘Bahirawa Kanda’ and ‘Sithma’. His deep involvement in the arts reflects a lifelong commitment to Sri Lankan culture and creativity.
