The historic Colombo Rowing Club (CRC) charted a bold new course at its 161st Annual General Meeting, announcing a new Executive Committee poised to lead the club into its 162nd year with renewed vision and momentum. The newly appointed committee blends fresh energy with institutional knowledge, ensuring continuity while driving innovation in one of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious sporting institutions.

Talal Shums was elected the President of Colombo Rowing Club for the 2025/26 period, with Lakmal Wickramage being elected as the Vice President. The Secretary’s position was placed by Prasantha de Silva while Heshan Hettigoda was elected the Assistant Secretary. Charithra Hettiarachchi was elected the Treasurer while the Assistant Treasurer’s position was filled by the appointment of Dathika Wikramanayake. Kemil Peter was appointed the Captain of the club while Prathap Perera was elected the Vice Captain. Nalin Samarawickrema, as the Immediate Past President, was included as an Executive Committee Member.

“As I take on this role, my vision is clear, to honour our rich history while steering us toward an even brighter future. We will continue to strengthen our rowing programmes, support our young rowers, and foster a spirit of inclusivity and camaraderie that welcomes all who wish to be part of this great institution,” said the newly elected President of CRC, Shums in his inaugural address.

He further stated his appreciation to his predecessor Nalin Samarawickrema, and all past presidents who have guided the institution with wisdom and unwavering dedication over the years.  Founded in 1864, the Colombo Rowing Club is the oldest rowing club in Sri Lanka and the second-oldest in Asia. Renowned for its rich heritage, the CRC remains a cornerstone of Sri Lanka’s sporting history, producing national champions and serving as a
vibrant social and athletic hub. Its colonial-era boathouse stands as an enduring landmark on the banks of the Beira Lake.
