Asoka wins Sumathi Award for best educational TV programme

Asoka Dias has won the Sumathi Award for the best educational television programme at the 30th Sumathi Awards held on Tuesday, July 15.
The host of the morning show ‘Pathikada,’ broadcast on News 1st, Sirasa TV, Asoka discusses current issues with prominent experts on the relevant subject. ‘Pathikada,’ is broadcast on News 1st, Sirasa TV daily on weekdays at six a.m.. The programme aims to spread awareness on topics of interest and educate Sri Lankans.
A media professional with over 30 years of experience in print, electronic, and digital media, Asoka is a director of MTV Channel (Pvt) Ltd. and MBC Networks (Pvt) Ltd., collectively known as Sirasa Media Network and country representative for the Manila-based, Asian Media Information and Communication Centre (AMIC).
A recent issue that Asoka took up on his programme was the Afanasy Nikitin Seamount. Several countries have launched international campaigns to secure ownership of this cobalt-rich seamount some 1,050 km from Sri Lanka, in the south. Asoka hosted several ‘Pathikada’ episodes, inviting experts to discuss the geopolitical issues, international law, and hydrological matters surrounding this rich and valuable mineral resource, to secure the ownership of the Afanasy Nikitin Seamount for Sri Lanka.
