Sri Lanka’s new High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Nimal Senadheera paid his first official visit on arrival in the country to the London Buddhist Vihara on Monday.

He was accompanied by his wife, Deputy High Commissioner Manouri Mallikaratchchy and high commission staff.

They were welcomed by Dayaka Sabha members representing the Anagarika Dharmapala Trust of Sri Lanka. A blessing ceremony was held for the envoy headed by the Acting Head Monk Ven Thawalama Bandula Thera, and including resident monks and visiting monks from Glasgow and Cambridge.

The London Buddhist Vihara was established by Anagarika Dharmapala in 1926 and is the oldest Theravada Buddhist monastery outside Asia.
