View(s):By Ishu Bandara
A moving tribute to renowned artist Sarath Kumarasiri, an exhibition titled “No Glory” will be held at the Millennium Art Contemporary (MIAC) in Athurugiriya from June 23 to 30.
The exhibition is expected to draw both art enthusiasts and those seeking to reflect on Sri Lanka’s complex past.
It will feature a collection of terracotta sculptures and drawings that honour lives lost, and bravely confront themes of war, ethnic violence, and memory features of Kumarasiri’s bold artistic legacy.
Kumarasiri, a graduate of the University of Kelaniya, represented Sri Lanka internationally through art residencies, including one at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum in Japan.
He was also a founding member of the 1999 “No Order” artist group, which challenged traditional narratives and introduced a brave, personal-political perspective to the local art scene.
The artist was born in 1968 and passed away in May this year.
“No Glory” opens on June 23 at 10.30 am and will run daily until July 30, 6 pm.
