Amir returns with another inspiring kid’s movie
View(s):- ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’
Following the huge international success of inspiration heart warming Hindi kid’s movie by Aamir Khan’s 2007 production ‘Taare Zameen Par’, his newest ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ (Stars on Earth) will be released in theatres around the island from June 20.
Bollywood sports comedy drama directed by R. S. Prasanna, and produced by Aamir Khan is an official Hindi remake of the Spanish film ‘Champions’ (2018).
An inspiring and emotionally resonant drama that delves into themes of redemption, empathy, and the transformative power of human connection, the Hindi adaptation offers a culturally grounded take on a universal story of acceptance and personal growth.
At the centre of the story is Gulshan, a talented but arrogant basketball coach whose career is derailed by his own hubris and irresponsible behaviour. Known for his sharp tongue, abrasive attitude, and a singular focus on winning, Gulshan’s world begins to unravel when a drunk driving incident lands him in legal trouble. Rather than serving time in jail, the court sentences him to community service — specifically, coaching a local basketball team comprised of ‘neurodivergent’ adults.
Initially, Gulshan treats the assignment as a punishment and arrives with a chip on his shoulder. His approach is steeped in cynicism and ignorance, assuming the players are incapable of real athletic progress or strategic thinking. The team includes individuals with a range of developmental differences — from those on the autism spectrum to players with ‘Down syndrome’ — each with unique personalities, challenges, and hidden strengths.
As the days unfold, Gulshan’s preconceived notions begin to unravel. Through humorous, touching, and at times frustrating encounters, he gradually starts to see the team not as a burden but as a mirror to his own emotional shortcomings. Their resilience, honesty, and unfiltered passion for the game challenge him to confront his inner demons and re-evaluate his values.
What begins as an obligatory chore slowly evolves into a life-changing journey for Gulshan.
The team, once underestimated and sidelined by society, starts showing signs of growth under his reluctant mentorship — and in the process, helps him rediscover his own humanity. The film crescendos in an uplifting climax where both the coach and his players come to terms with who they are, learning that success isn’t always measured in trophies, but in understanding, growth, and solidarity. With a powerful message of inclusion, Sitaare Zameen Par stands out as a heartfelt celebration of diversity, compassion, and the boundless potential that exists when people are given a chance to shine — no matter how different they might be.
Imported by Antenna International Pvt Ltd and distributed via EAP circuit, the film will be released at Savoy 3D, Savoy Rajagiriya, Savoy Metro Gampaha, MC Colombo, Regal Katubedda- Moratuwa, PVR, CCC Scope, CCC Havlock City, LIBERTY by scope – Kiribathgod, RAM – Wattala, KCC – Kandy and Milano- Kegalle.
