One of the biggest challenges travellers find when travelling within Sri Lanka is the lack of sanitation facilities. Locating public sanitation facilities is a daunting task while on the road. The government of Sri Lanka last week signed MoU’s with four fuel providers to establish 540 modern sanitation facilities island-wide under the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ programme in the next three years.

In line with the above, Sinopec hosted its first ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ open day last week at the newly renovated fuel station in Nawala. The initiative is to support the government’s efforts to ensure Sri Lankan’s benefit from clean washroom facilities and enhanced services delivered through Sinopec’s network of fuel stations across the island. Dilly Fuelling Station in Nawala is the 14th fuel station enhanced since Sinopec’s entry into Sri Lanka out of its 150 fuel stations to be renovated in total. The fuel station in Nawala has a range of enhancements, from high-speed and precision fuel pumps to emergency shut down buttons, static electricity fire prevention technologies, fuel vapour capture valves, and clean restroom facilities designed for men, women, and the differently abled.

In addition to infrastructure, Sinopec is also investing in human capital development, including island-wide training programmes for station managers and fuel pump attendants on safety, first aid, fuel refilling service excellence and fire response practices. These capacity-building efforts aim to improve customer interactions and raise the overall quality of service delivery and safety across the Sinopec network.

Chinese Ambassador, Qi Zhenhong who attended the event mentioned, “As the world’s largest refining company and the second-largest chemical company, as well as China’s leading supplier of refined oil and petrochemical products, Sinopec has taken root in Sri Lanka. Sinopec’s dedication to sustainability, high-quality service, and corporate responsibility is a true reflection of the spirit that defines China-Sri Lanka cooperation.”
