Cinnamon Grand Colombo marks the 50th anniversary of its fine-dining restaurant, London Grill, hosting a culinary collaboration with celebrity chef and TV personality Phillip Davenport. This milestone not only celebrates the restaurant’s five decades but also 20 years of the Cinnamon Grand Colombo.

Area Vice President of Cinnamon Colombo Hotels and General Manager of Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Kamal Munasinghe, highlighted the significance of London Grill’s enduring success. “For a restaurant concept to survive for 50 years is no easy feat, especially in a market like Colombo. If you don’t have the right concept, the right people, and the passion, it is very difficult to maintain,” he said, crediting the original team that launched London Grill in 1975 for laying a solid foundation and the continued commitment of the staff for keeping that vision alive.

The team at London Grill has worked hard to preserve its distinctive flair, strengthened by partnerships with chefs like Chef Davenport whose journey spanning three decades covers cooking for Hollywood elites at Sydney’s Hugo’s to heading luxury dining concepts in London, the Caribbean, and Bali. Now a culinary consultant and TV producer, he’s behind the food-travel series Eating In, recently picked up by Netflix’s Asia-Pacific arm.

“What’s really exciting for me is producing TV shows and doing events because I’m not really in the fine dining world anymore, so to come to Cinnamon Grand and London Grill and to share my experience in cuisine is more exciting to me than sometimes my consulting because I get to showcase different countries and cities,” said Chef Davenport.

At the London Grill, Chef Davenport is presenting six-course tasting menus that blend classic French techniques with vibrant Southeast Asian flavours. His first dinner took place earlier this week, with the next paired with premium whiskey scheduled for May 22 and 23.

Meanwhile Kapila Jayasinghe, Cluster Executive Chef behind the culinary creations of Cinnamon Grand Colombo and Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, will be launching an exciting new menu later this month at the London Grill.
