30 to 35 years
We toil for the homeland
Strike or protest rallies
Were not in our blood
Three to four decades of hard work
Our hands, once strong now shaking.
Pension we receive once a month
Half or more goes for health care
Basic quality essentials
We only buy from eyes only
Economic mismanagement of politicians
Millions of promises they utter
Are like ice in a hot plate.
Allow us to enjoy life
With our loving kith and kin
Hope and pray for God above
To send us a trustworthy disciple.
Who will illuminate the evening of
our life
And give us happy relaxation.

For a lost child
Child you cried out loud, and no one heard.
Was I deaf; were we deaf?
Was your agony not ours too?
Was the place you came from too low,
Too alien, a mere insignificant speck?
Were you invisible or a mere fleeting shadow;
Dispensable of no consequence?
Where were the protectors, those who could?
Were they deaf and dumb and blind?
Did your bright light shatter their darkness?
Were they fearful?
Were they praying for merit in the life beyond?
Their souls far too damaged to see your light.
Was salvage only theirs? Wasn’t it yours too?
Pretending righteousness.
Nation a collective empty vessel.
What have you done?
Nothing!
