A special musical evening titled ‘Symphony of Hope’ will be held on Friday, 23rd May at 7.30 pm at the Musaeus College Auditorium, in aid of the HelpAge Sri Lanka Eye Hospital’s free cataract surgery programme.

The concert will feature a lineup of renowned Sri Lankan performers, including Sohan Weerasinghe, Annesley Malewana, Keerthi Pasquel, Mariazelle Gunathilake, Ashanthi de Alwis, Judy de Silva, Damien Wickramasinghe, Rukshan Perera and Falan Andrea. They will be accompanied by the versatile band Aroh, promising a vibrant mix of Sinhala and English hits- old and new, creating an unforgettable evening of music and giving for the whole family. As the official compere for the event, Kumar de Silva will add a touch of elegance and professionalism to the night’s celebrations.

Since its inception in 2009, the HelpAge Eye Hospital in Wellawatte has performed over 52,000 free cataract surgeries, restoring sight and independence to thousands of underprivileged elderly Sri Lankans. Operating on an average of 20 patients a day, the hospital faces growing demand as more seniors seek this vital service. With rising medical costs, HelpAge Sri Lanka continues to explore multiple funding avenues to sustain the programme.

Events like ‘Symphony of Hope’ aim to raise public awareness and encourage greater community participation in giving the gift of sight.

‘Sri Lanka has the fastest ageing population in South Asia, with projections indicating that 25% of the population will be over 60 years old by 2041. Alarmingly, over 500,000 elderly individuals in the country are at risk of blindness due to cataracts—a condition that is entirely preventable with timely intervention. That’s why this event is more than a concert—it’s a vital fundraising effort to protect sight and preserve dignity’ said Tharika Goonathilake, the Head of Community Relations at HelpAge Sri Lanka.

‘The event is funded entirely through ticket sales, sponsorships, and public donations, with individual cataract surgery sponsorships available at Rs. 25,000. HelpAge Sri Lanka invites compassionate citisens and corporates alike to contribute to this life-changing cause’ she added.

Tickets for ‘Symphony of Hope’ are priced at Rs. 10,000/-, 7,500/-, 5000/-, 2500/- and 2000/- (Balcony), can be purchased online via Tickets Ministry and at HelpAge Sri Lanka, with proceeds directly supporting the hospital’s services.
