View(s):The landmark musical show ‘Damayantha Kuruppu Golden Anniversary 50 years of Music and Memories’ will come alive on Saturday 17th May 7.00pm at the BMICH . This is a show with a difference put together by DK Promotions to relive the memories of first concert presented by Damayantha Kuruppu in 1975 at Nawaragahala . The show was also the first solo concert by Milton Mallawarachchi backed by Super Golden Chimes with Clarence Wijewardena and Annesley Malawana.
The 1975 show laid the foundation for Damayantha to move on and to present approximately 130 shows since then. He has presented shows as fund raisers for schools and other organizations. Also several shows for a number of well-known artistes, showbiz personalities to mark their landmark celebrations. Besides the shows involving local artists, Damayantha has brought down several international artistes to perform in Sri Lanka. The shows with Sir Cliff Richard, Daniel O’Donnell, Lobo, Platters and Tony Christie are considered as most significant. He stated that the shows he has produced were with the objective to give the music loving public in Sri Lanka an opportunity to enjoy quality entertainment.
‘Positive feedback and appreciation was what gave me much joy and motivation in presenting shows. Also music and showbiz has been my hobby and passion’ he added.
The show on 17th May at BMICH will feature Ranil Mallawarachchi and Annesley Malawana as the main performers. Other artistes who will feature at the Golden Anniversary concert are Mignonne, Fernando, Dalreen, Keerthi Pasqual, Mariazelle and Badhiya & Santush. There will be a special tribute to legendary singers Sunil Perera and Ronnie Leitch and also Priya Suriyasena, who passed away recently by his son Lakshitha. Music for the concert will be provided by Vision supported by popular musicians. The compere of the show will be Clifford Richards.
