Vidusha Rajaguru: Rock vocal power house

Vidusha Rajaguru, a second year student at the Visual and Performing Arts University, was praised as a  predominantly a ‘rock’ singer at the ‘Derana Dream Star’ completion and acclaimed as the newest addition to Sri Lankan rock music scene.

An old girl of Vishaka Vidyalaya, Colombo 4, Sangeeth Praveen, Sangeeth Visharada Vidusha Rajaguru has recently sang a duet with rock star Indra Chapa Liyanage as she could be termed as a feminine vocal powerhouse of Sinhala rock music genre.

Vidusha, a native of Matale, the family had moved to Colombo to facilitate the schooling of Vidusha and her two siblings. She has shown signs of her powerful vocal ability as she was able to sing flawlessly both low and high notes as well as in vivid genres from her tender age. In school Vidusha had won many singing competitions locally and island wide. She had triumphed to become the ‘Derana Little Star’.

In year 2017, she was awarded the ‘Sarasaviya Award’ for singing the song ‘Lassanai Wananthare’ the theme song of the box office film ‘Ali Kathawa” directed by Professor Sunil Ariyaratne

Vidusha has recorded many music videos perhaps more than many novice singer which are in her YouTube channel. The Buddhist song ‘Sambudu Ruwa’ has been the most popular with millions of viewers. She had recorded Christian songs to for Christmas 2024, which too had drawn broad viewer attention. More recently her video on ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ was released related to the recently concluded ‘Dalada Dekama’.

In school she had been a proficient ‘Chess’ exponent too winning at all island competitions apart in music competitions. She is also a competent exponent in ‘Kung fu Wushu’ also learning ‘Angampora’ which is totally for her protection and defense. Father an army officer deceased when Vidusha was only fifteen years.
