South Eastern Uni students and academics visit parliament
View(s):A group of undergraduates from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka, led by academic staff members, visited the parliament public gallery to observe parliamentary proceedings recently.
This is part of a series of special public outreach programmes initiated by the Parliament’s Communications Department with the objective of effectively communicating accurate information about parliament to the public.
The undergraduates participated in an awareness programme conducted by the Public Outreach Division on the legislative process.
Through this programme, the visitors from the university were educated on the importance of Sri Lanka’s Parliament, the legislative process and functions, and the committee system. Special attention was also paid to the process of drafting a bill.
This awareness programme was organised under the guidance of Acting Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne, Assistant Secretary General Hansa Abeyratne, and the supervision of Director (Legislative Services) (Communications) Jayalath Perera.
This event was attended by Deputy Minister of National Integration Muneer Mulaffer, MPs Aboobacker Athambawa and A M M M Rathwaththe. The programme was conducted by parliament officials M S M Shaheed, Yasri Mohamed, and Piyasiri Amarasingha. -CK
