Rishma rescues Joes; Richmond escape defeat
View(s):Rishma Amarasinghe rescued St. Joseph’s College with an unbeaten ton to enable a comfortable first innings win over Richmond College in the Under-19 Inter-School cricket encounter concluded at Katunayake yesterday.
St. Joseph’s, in reply to Richmond’s 159, resumed from their overnight score of 44 for 2 and fell into deep trouble after losing three quick wickets. They were struggling on 88 for 5 before Rishma rescued them with an unbeaten 102 off 131 balls inclusive of seven boundaries and three sixes, while sharing two valuable partnerships as St. Joseph’s declared at 285 for 8.
In contrast, Richmond escaped an innings defeat, while attempting to erase the deficit of 126 runs, as they were in dire straits before managing to save the game by ending the day on 113 for 9.
