Dambulla and Colombo women record wins
Dambulla Women and Colombo Women came out victorious in the ongoing National Super League U-23 Women’s T20 cricket tournament with wins over Kandy Women and Galle Women in the matches played in the morning and evening sessions at the Galle Stadium yesterday.
Both teams will feature in the final of the tournament, which will be played today at the same venue. From a total match card of 12 games, eight were abandoned or ended in no results due to bad weather conditions, and the only teams to play complete games and record wins were Dambulla and Colombo.
Dambulla Women recorded a win by 16 runs on the D/L method over Kandy Women in a rain hampered match while Colombo Women coasted to a comfortable 7-wicket win over Galle Women in the evening session.
Kandy Women, taking first lease of the wicket, faced the allotted 20 overs and made a score of 87 for 9 and Dambulla Women, in their run chase, was on 43 for 2 having faced 6.2 overs when play was called off due to bad weather which ensured them a win. Colombo Women, after bowling out their opponents for 80 runs, was helped by an unbeaten knock of 37 by Shikari de Silva which helped them to race to the target in the 14th over.
