The highly anticipated 11th Dhamso International Chess Festival (DICF) is set to take place from May 17 to 21, at the esteemed S. Thomas de Silva Memorial Auditorium, located within the picturesque grounds of Dharmasoka College in Ambalangoda.

This year’s edition of DICF promises to be an unforgettable experience for chess enthusiasts and players alike. Organised by the Old Boys’ Chess Association and endorsed by FIDE, Asian Chess Federation, and Chess Federation of Sri Lanka, this tournament is renowned for its high level of competition and prestigious atmosphere.

Established in 2011, the Dhamso International Chess Festival has been a trailblazer in the Sri Lankan chess scene, notably being the first FIDE-rated event organised by a school-affiliated association in the country. Year after year, it has attracted top players and garnered acclaim for its professionalism and competitive spirit.

With a total prize fund of Rs. One and a half million, winners will be awarded trophies, medals, and certificates, with participation certificates issued to all players. In addition, the DICF Player of the Year will receive a substantial prize, adding further excitement to the event. The tournament will feature both standard and blitz events, each comprising 10 rounds played in a Swiss format. Standard games will have a time control of 90 minutes plus a 30-second increment from first move, while blitz games will be played with a time control of three minutes plus two-second increments from the first move. Alongside the main events, DICF 2024 will include various activities such as parents’ chess events, providing additional opportunities for engagement and enjoyment.

The S. Thomas De Silva Memorial Auditorium at Dharmasoka College, provides an ideal setting for this prestigious chess festival.
