Trinity College and Nalanda College – two of the leading cricket-playing schools in the country – will meet for the 44th occasion, as the two sides clash to lay their hands on the Mahela-Sanga Challenge Trophy on April 26 and 27 at Campbell Place in Colombo.

The annual cricket encounter between Trinity and Nalanda has been an annual event since its inception in 1978, but was later named after the two cricketing legends produces from both schools – Mahela Jayawardena of Nalanda and Kumar Sangakkara of Trinity. Both went on to captain Sri Lanka at the highest level and earned the reputation of modern day cricketing greats at world stage.

The annual encounter, which embodies the spirit of cricket and camaraderie between the two schools, is played under the theme ‘Spirit of Cricket Legacy for Future Generations’ this year, with the intention instilling the values of sportsmanship, teamwork and integrity in young cricketers. This year’s encounter is organised by the Nalanda College `88 Group Batch.
