St. Peter’s College and Lumbini MV emerged victorious in their respective Under-19 inter-school cricket matches against Zahira and Kingswood, which concluded yesterday. At Bambalapitiya, St. Peter’s defeated Zahira by an innings and 82 runs, while Lumbini secured a commanding innings and 107-run victory over Kingswood at Gampola.

Meanwhile, St. Anthony’s skipper Thisara Ekanayake, made history by breaking an Antonian record that stood for 106 years with his impressive knock of 106 against Wesley. Ekanayake’s remarkable innings marked his fourth century against the Colombo-based opponents, with his previous three centuries coming against Nalanda, St. Joseph’s, and St. Peter’s.

He surpassed the record held by top Antonian batsman, Jack Anderson, who had scored three centuries against Colombo schools — Wesley, St. Benedict’s, and S. Thomas’. Ekanayake now joins an elite group of Antonians who have scored four centuries in a single school cricket season, alongside A.C.M. Lafir, Charlie Joseph, S.W. Seneviratne, Bernard Perera, and Hiran Wickramasekera
