A ward winning painter and writer Ajith P. Dharmasuriya’s maiden film ‘Warna’(Colour) is now being screened in cinemas around the country.

A tale revolving around a family with a young daughter, the film narrates how the somewhat peaceful setting is dramatically shattered with the entrance of a stranger.

Written by Dharmasuriya himself, the story revolves around Sydney Banagala, middle class planter, who lives a peaceful life with his wife Yashoma and their daughter Anuradha. The family is going through an issue after they had come to know that their only daughter had fallen in love with a married man. It is during this period that Vishwa, a stranger arrives from abroad.

Sydney who seems to have a special connection to him, makes arrangements for Vishwa to stay at his house. However Sydney doesn’t reveal to his wife or daughter about his connection to the stranger. This creates an issue for the curious mother and the daughter who is recovering from a complex relationship. Meantime Anuradha gets attrcted to the stranger in the house. She tries to get closer to Vishwa who looks very silent and mysterious. This complicates the situation and affects the peace in the family.

‘I tried my best to make a film giving priority to the picture’ said new filmmaker Ajith P. Dharmasuriya.

In ‘Warna’, I wanted to discuss how different family members who are brought up with Asian cultural and traditional background look at unexpected issues and problems’ he added.

‘Warna’ stars Vishwa Kodikara, Lakshman Mendis, Jayani Senanayake, Chamathka Lakmini, Surendra Kumara, Menushi Bandara, Ravindu Fernando and Niroshan Budhdhika in the stellar cast.

‘Warna’ also introduces Indra Pathiraja, a new producer to Sri Lankan cinema. Cinematographed by Ruwan Costa, the editing and colour grading of the film is by Binu Costa. Art director is Neil Ravindra, while make up by Rukman Thilakaratne and lighting by Sharaka Shyamal. To the musical score of Samantha Perera, the playback songs are sung by Dr. Nipuni Tharaka Kaluarachchi.
