The Kurunegala Hospital’s dialysis section has been sealed following suspicion that some of the patients who got treatment have died of an infection.

A two-member committee has been appointed by the Health Ministry to investigate the issue, Health Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.

A team of Health Ministry officials is due to arrive today in Kurunegala to carry out an investigation.

The cause of the deaths has not yet been identified, but there is suspicion of some form of contamination.

The hospital’s lab technicians claimed that there had been a shortage of chemicals used for disinfection purposes in the unit.
