Customers inconvenienced by new rule of BOC

I am a retired Govt. Servant aged 75 years. On February 13, I called over at the BOC Polgahawela branch to get the passbook of my wife updated. This was a usual practice to find out whether the pension has been credited to her account. The clerk at the counter cited a new safety rule imposed by the bank making it mandatory for the holder of the passbook to be physically present to update entries. I humbly explained that my wife has undergone a knee joint replacement surgery and commuting to the bank in a vehicle simply to get few lines printed will incur us an extra cost. Since the withdrawal of cash was done by me using her ATM card, she would call over only to obtain a new pass book. The officers were under strict orders to apply their new rule to the book and I was turned away. I wonder whose bright idea was behind this so-called new rule as it warrants all savings account holders to personally present themselves to get a few lines printed on their pass books. This is a harassment of customers by a bank which claims to be the number one among their category.
