First ‘Servants of Buddha’ Oration by British theologian

Eminent British theologian and specialist in Buddhism studies, Dr. Elizabeth Harris, will deliver the inaugural annual ‘Servants of The Buddha’ Oration on Saturday, February 10 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maitriya Hall, Mettaramaya, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya, Colombo 4.

The title of the Oration is “What did early Western converts find attractive in Buddhism? A Case Study on Ven. Ananda Metteyya (1872-1923)”. The Oration is open only to invited members.

Dr. Elizabeth Harris, an eminent Christian theologian, is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the Edward Cadbury Centre for Public Understanding of Religion, University of Birmingham, UK, and current President, UK Association for Buddhist Studies. Previously, she was President, European Network for Buddhist-Christian Studies. Dr. Harris is well known in Sri Lankan scholarly circles as a frequent researcher of the Sasana here.

‘Servants of The Buddha’ comprises Buddhists as well as others interested in pursuing deeper learning of the life and teachings of The Buddha.
