The Galle Literary Festival, back after five years, has been in full swing from Thursday and will end today, after four days of celebration of books, art and culture within the ochre walls of the Galle Fort with its Dutch Gallus emblem. It was indeed a catholic gathering of book lovers from around the world – ‘a literary port’ as it was billed – ‘where tales arrive on tides’….

As discussions, walks and performances took place and books aplenty unfolded, there was a tang of hope for better times and the harbour city positively vibrated.
