SJB wants a hybrid probe

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has called for an international investigation with the support of local officials to probe the allegations made in the Channel 4 video on the Easter Sunday attacks.

The call comes ahead of tomorrow’s UN Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva following a fresh video on the Easter Sunday attacks this week.

SJB General Secretary Ranjith Maddumabandara told the Sunday Times that the party’s view is that there should be an international investigation in collaboration with local investigators.

“The investigation would have to take place in such a way that the international teams would interview the local investigators who carried out their own probe. They can learn from the findings made by the local investigators and conduct their own investigation.

“This investigation needs to be done by international investigators as the chief of intelligence, Suresh Salley, is the person who is implicated in the issue. Our people will not do a proper investigation,” he added.

Meanwhile, JVP’s Sunil Handunnetti said: “There is a lot of intelligence information as well as other information available regarding the Easter Sunday attacks.

“Whether it should be a local or international investigation should be decided by the experts. We are not experts; therefore, we cannot say who should investigate,” he added.
