‘Obai Mamai’: Trip down Kamal’s memory lane

‘Obai Mamai’, a maiden musical journey of the popular and much-loved actor Kamal Addararachchi will come alive on Saturday, September 16 at the Grand Ballroom at Water’s Edge starting from 7.00 pm. Having been involved in acting for four decades, the veteran actor is all set to fascinate his fans with an extraordinary musical journey through his forty year-long career at his upcoming concert ‘Obai Mamai’.

Kamal will perform a selection of 25 songs, guarantees to be a fusion of cinematic and musical brilliance from his silver screen journey starting from 1981. Addaraarachchi made his debut as an actor in Gamini Fonseka’s 1981 film ‘Sagarayak Meda’, whilst he was still a student at Wesley College, Colombo.

‘Loku Duwa’, ‘Saptha Kanya’, ‘Julietge Bhumikawa’, ‘Kalu Sudu Mal’, ‘Agnidahaya ‘,‘Mille Soya’, ‘Randiya Dahara’, ‘Asani Warsha’, ‘Guerilla Marketing’, ‘Bawa Karma’ are some of his top rated movies.  He has acted in 20 teledramas including popular ‘Dandubasnamanaya’ and six stage plays, and won the Sarasaviya Best Actor Award for his role of Sobana in Jayantha Chandrasiri’s film ‘Agnidahaya’ in 2002.

‘Obai Mamai’ stands as a remarkable milestone in Kamal’s career as it marks his debut into the territory of musical concerts. During the concert ‘Obai Mamai’, the scenes from the movies and teledramas in which Kamal took part will be shown to the audience on giant screens on the sides of the stage. Music for the concert will be provided by Priyantha Gamage and his orchestra.

The concert’s dynamic programme will also include a series of captivating dance performances, adding to the overall spectacle.
Kamal Addararachchi, a prolific character in the film industry, also rendered his singing talent to the song ‘Ummadawoo Pramadare’ with Damayanthi Jayasuriya in ‘Saptha Kanya’ film and ‘Thun Sitha Dahan Gathawena’ with Neela Wickremasinghe.

The concert, spanning a duration of three hours, is programmed to cater to diverse musical preferences, encompassing various genres that will appeal to a wide range of audiences. ‘Obai Mamai’ promises to be an unforgettable trip down Kamal’s memory lane, celebrating not only his illustrious career but also the universal power of music to touch hearts and bridge connections.
