Six years after disaster Meethotamulla raising its ugly head once again

View(s):

The abandoned garbage dumping site in Meethotamulla, Colombo, is once again being used, a visit to the area revealed.

Six years back the site was abandoned following the collapse of the dump that claimed 32 lives and displaced over 350.

However, residents in the vicinity have once again started dumping garbage at the site.

When it was abandoned there were plans to turn it into a park but that too did not materialise.

Posing another hazard, the site is turning into a mosquito breeding ground with areas collecting water when it rains.
