A suspect taken into custody for using forged documents to admit students to a leading girls’ school in Kandy has been remanded until June 13.

The suspect is due to be produced for an identification parade.

He had issued letters to admit students to St Anthony’s Convent in Katugastota.

He is accused of using letterheads of an Additional Secretary of the Education Ministry Hemantha Premathilaka and forging a signature to issue letters to get children admitted to intermediary classes.

The fraud was revealed during an audit, and a complaint was lodged by Mr Premathilaka.

At least 14 students had been admitted to the school using forged documents.
