Sri Lanka’s victorious girls doubles pair Dinara de Silva and Inuki Jayaweera

The Sri Lanka girls emerged champions of the Billie Jean King Cup International Tennis Tournament when they recorded a 2-1 win over Kyrgyzstan in the final played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday.

Sri Lanka underwent an early setback when they lost the first singles match but bounced back after Dinara de Silva came out victorious in the second singles. Dinara then partnered Inuki Jayaweera to bag the doubles encounter to emerge champions.

In the Boys Davis Cup Junior Tournament final, which was played concurrently, Hong Kong China overcame Indonesia by 2-0 to emerge champions. The doubles encounter was not played. The tournament saw the participation of 16 countries in the Boys Davis Cup Juniors and 14 countries in the Billie Jean Cup tournaments.

Doubles:

Dinara de Silva/Inuki Jayaweera (Sri Lanka) beat Kamila Aripova/Erika Ismailova (Kyrgyzstan) 2-0 (6/3. 6/4)

Boys – Davis Cup Junior

Hong Kong China beat Indonesia 2-0

Singles:

Ngai Hoi Cheung (Hong Kong China) beat Rais Kusuma Dewantara (Indonesia) 2-0 (6/2, 7/6(3)

Jacob Kailiang Shen (Hong Kong China) beat Muhammad Akmal (Indonesia) 2-0 (6/2, 6/1)
