Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906) was a celebrated Indian artist, famous for his realistic portrayal of Indian gods, goddesses, and mythological characters, in scenes adapted mainly from the Mahabharata, Ramayana and the Puranas.

Varma was the first to make prints (or lithographs) of his artworks affordable and easily available, bringing fine art to the masses.

The film inspired by selected paintings of Raja Ravi Varma of Sita, the heroine of the Ramayana epic features dances performed by the Apsaras Arts Company with artistic direction by Aravinth Kumarasamy. Music composition is by Dr Rajkumar Bharathi, featuring Bombay vocalist Jayashri Ramnath, and choreography and costume design is by Mohanapriyan Thavarajah.

A brief talk about the paintings by Aravinth Kumarasamy will precede the screening of the film.
