The ITF Junior Tennis Week 1 Tournament came to an end with the two singles finals of girls’ and boy’s played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo yesterday morning. In the girls’ final, which went to the wire, Wenfei Yu of China overcame her compatriot Zi Ying Ryan in a home vs home clash. Ryan was forced to retire in the deciding set due to an injury as Wenfei claimed the win by 2 sets to 1.

In the boy’s final Alexey Shibaey coasted to an easy two 2-0 victory over Ferdinand Novkirichka of France.

Sri Lanka players Saajida Razick and Dinara de Silva competed in the girls’ category, along with boy’s players Nithila Goonetileke and Methwan Wijemanne, bowed out of contention after losing in the first round and quarter-final encounters.

The ITF Junior Week 2 will get underway from tomorrow at the same venue.
