Girls winners

University of Moratuwa won both the Men’s and Women’s titles at the Inter University Chess Championships convincingly scoring full 10 points out of possible 10. The Moratuwa boys beat South Eastern, Ruhuna, Sri Jayewardenepura, Peradeniya and Jaffna Universities convincingly while the Moratuwa girls beat their counterparts from Jaffna, Sabaragamuwa, Rajarata, Colombo and Peradeniya without resistance.

The Moratuwa Men’s team, led by Chathulanka Gamage, consisted of Khrishna Rahul Jeyanthan, Prasanjith Lorensuhewa, Sithija Lahiru, Thisen Thiyasara, Anjana Herath, Kaveen Ishara and D.R. Naotunna while the Women’s team comprised of skipper V.N.W. Siriwardana, Anuki Pasquel, Piyumali Karunathilake, W.A. Tanuli Inoshi. Pasaindi Yathra Wijesuriya, Naduni Peththanayake and Sakuni Bandara.

The second position in Men’s went to Sri Jayewardenepura University with 8 match points while Colombo University settled in at third with 7 match points. University of Ruhuna also scored 7 match points but was placed fourth on poor tie breaking points.

The second position in Women’s was claimed by Colombo University with 7 match points after the tie breaker while the Peradeniya, also with 7 points, finished third. Rajarata University also scored 7 match points but was placed fourth on poor tie breaking points.
